I ♥ Auckland - Cornwall Park One Tree Hill

One of my absolute favourite places to hang out in Auckland is Cornwall Park - One  Tree Hill. I spent many hours in the school holidays,  as a teenager walking the 30mins from my home with my siblings, where we would spend the day walking around the park, climbing to the top of One Tree Hill without a care in the world. As a young mother I would take my children their to play in the children's playground, and to have picnics.  When my Dad was ill, and living in the rest home I would take him for a drive to the park where we would sit and eat his favourite meal of deep fried mussels, chips ( fries) and fresh fish. It was an opportunity for him to just sit out of the rest home environment and feel some sort of normality. Many a Christmas Day was spent in the park, our whole family getting together to share a picnic, or to cook on one of the BBQ's supplied.

I never tire of visiting the park, for photowalks, picnics or just to spend some time exploring the ever changing scenery. The following photos taken last weekend Autumn 2011 and Spring 2010, they only give a small snapshot of this beautiful place. Visit the website below to get some historical information on the park.

It looks really lovely there. We havea one tree hill in Greenwich park and also one in Honor Oak Park where I used to live. Though that one is not truly a one tree hill but in the middle of some woods. I see you call chips chips too! Your Dad's favourite meal sounds tasty.

Angela, It is wonderful that you have precious family memories of time spent together in this beautiful park. Money can't buy such heartwarming gifts as these.

be well, be happy :)

I love One Tree Hill and Cornwall Park. I learned to drive around the park. Emma and Lucca have loved every time we've been there too. It's a fun place to be as a kid and a realxing place to go as an adult. I'll always have fond memories of that place. Christmases and family events were always great there.

That looks and sounds like a wonderful park, full of happy memories and with lots of opportunities to make new ones. What a blessing it is to have a place like that near by!

A Wild Thing

Hello friend...I've been so busy with Springtime, that I've so neglected my friends online, especially my SSS friends!!!

Planting time is always such a mad dash, especially with uncertain weather patterns, you never know when a rogue frost will surprise your tender seedlings.

I don't get out and about much these days, with the gas prices as high as they are, to take Scratchy on outings like your beautiful Auckland, we'll be staying quite close to home!

However, I'm happy with that, I just keep turning my lil' piece of paradise into my personal sanctuary and keep planting more trees to hide me away from this mad, mad world...I need a water feature...hmmmmm...another project in the works...maybe...ha!

Have a great week ahead in your stunning New Zealand...LOVE your header photo!!!
