I ♥ Auckland

This week is the beginning of a new weekly post highlighting some of the beautiful places to be found in and around Auckland the region and city where I have lived for most of my life.

From the west coast surf beaches with their black ironsand and pounding surf  to the east coast beaches with their  glistening white sands and sparkling seas Auckland is a beautiful place to live in and to visit.

A city surrounded by dormant volcanoes, and edged by native bush there is an abundance of things to do and places to visit.

One of these places is the island of Rangitoto, the youngest island in the harbour it  emerged from the sea around 700 years ago in a series of volcanic explosions. Rising to a height of 260 metres the circular island presents the same uniform appearance and is visible from most parts of the mainland. Situated about 8 km northeast of Auckland and connected to Motutapu Island by a causeway. For more history on  Rangitoto check out the website

You do live in an amazing place, Angela. I love learning about different areas of the world.. I enjoyed the history lesson.

So have you been over there?
It'd be great to swim over there.
But I'd need someone to pick me up once I'm there ;)
Great shots.

Awesome shots Mum. I always have such great memories from childhood whenever I see Rangitoto. I feel so blessed to have grown up in Auckland, and to have lived on Mototapu Island. Not many people have experienced that kind of fun!!

Boo Hoo....I want to come back! Loved our view of Rangitoto. We commissioned an artist to paint the view from Mt. Hobson. I spent a lot of time up there walking the dog. I always promised myself I would kayak from Mission Bay to Rangitoto. I still have to do that!!

I have tried to comment on your photo blog today, don't know what's going on. When I click on "post a comment" no comment form appears.
Anyway, this week's challenge is very interesting, but I have very little experience in editing, and not enough time or energy to work it out right now. I love the photos you guys have posted!
I'll try to be back next time!
Have a great weekend :-)

Thank you for spreading the goodness of Auckland.
