Magpie Tales #13

This is a prompt from a weekly writing theme hosted by Willow over at: http://magpietales.blogspot.com/

Some people write short vignettes, some write short poems

Here is my contribution for this week:

                                                                       The Gang

He stood in the middle of the circle of boys. It was difficult for him not to feel nervous as they all sat, with their legs crossed, staring at him, silent, thumping their fists into their hands.

The clubhouse was dimly lit, smelling of the damp and of burning candles. He was sure that they could feel his fear as he stood there, his legs shaking, beads of sweat starting to form on his forehead.

"Well, Skinny," sneered Billy. "Did you do what we told you to do? Did you go to the old man's house?"
Billy looked him up and down, thumping his fist into his hand, making him feel even more uncomfortable.
"You know ", he said with contempt, "if you want to be part of this gang you have to earn your place"

Skinny just stared back at him not saying a word. He took his hand out of his pocket, and held his arm
out to Billy. Skinny's fingers were closed, his hand facing upward. Slowly, ever so slowly he opened his fingers and there it was, lying in the middle of his hand, staring at him.

The boys all gasped and leaned in closer to get a better look.

All except Billy, that is, his look of contempt slowly turning to rage as he realised that Skinny was about to become part of the gang. His gang, and there was nothing he could do about it.

ABC of Pictures - Letter Q

Q is for - Question...

How did the tractor get on top of that tree trunk???
What do you think??

ABC of Pictures - Letter P

P is for....   Peter Pan and Wendy

Peter Pan and I have a history together, when I was 10years old, I was given the book of Peter Pan and I fell in love with the story of the boy with no mother and the Lost Boys living in Neverland. I loved that the Darling children had a dog as a Nanny. I believed that Tinkerbell was real, and that she along with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys gave Captain Hook and the pirates a hard time. The Tick Tock of the clock in the crocodiles stomach always made me nervous. I have to say that I loved this story, still do and probably always will.

I found this book in our local book store, and there was no way that I was not going to buy it.   The book as been published to celebrate 100 years of Peter Pan.  Below are two of the numerous illustrations, they are exquisite.

I will read the book, it will not sit unread on our book shelves. Hopefully, I will get a chance to read  this book to Emma, she is a huge fan of Peter Pan and Wendy and of course Tinkerbell.

This book is what I call an "Heirloom Book", and will given to Emma on her 18th birthday, as I know that she will love this as much as I do.

ABC of Pictures - Letter O

O is for...  Old

Old Buildings, these photos were taken at the historic village in Waiuku. This is the Waiuku Lock-upbuilt in 1865.

Hartmann House Circa 1800's. One of the original cottages of the area. It is now used to sell handcrafts made by locals.

Old farm equipment taken outside the Waiuku Museum, I have no idea how old these are, but they are really well worn. This looks like an old plough, with the blade on the side.

Your guess is as good as mine, I have no idea what this could be, there is a wheel at the end, and what looks like the frame of a seat at the front.
